A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, creative and ideas-driven Teaching Assistant to work in a Secondary school in Enfield. A teaching assistant’s role is to help children make progress and learn. The role involves working in class, with small groups and with children on a one-to-one basis. Being a teaching assistant is a key resource in promoting children’s well-being and academic achievement. You will be required to work quickly but efficiently, with great time management skills, undertaking tasks on your own initiative. You will have the support of a dedicated senior leadership team to ensure you are able to focus on delivering outstanding teaching and learning.

Main Duties:
- To work with the class teacher/senior staff/SENCO to support teaching and learning and undertake work/care/support programmes, to enable access to learning for individuals/groups of students.
- To support young people with disabilities and/or special educational needs
- To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school
- To deliver pastoral and learning support as well as verbal feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement and develop productive working relationships
- To work with the SENCO and other teachers to develop and implement learning and behaviour plans and other tasks as required by SENDCO and/or the Headteacher/SLT
- To understand the individual needs of children and, where appropriate, be responsible for advising them on social and emotional health
- Within an agreed system of supervision, to work with the teacher to develop lessons, work plans and the classroom environment
- To assess, feedback and record the achievements and progress of students through agreed monitoring systems
- To develop behaviour management strategies
- To be aware of and comply with the school’s Code of Conduct as well as policies and procedures relating to child protection and to demonstrate a commitment to school improvement at all levels.
- To assist with the development of Literacy, Numeracy, and ICT skills and to support their use in learning activities
Person Specification/ Qualifications and other required experience and knowledge
Essential:
- GCSE Grade C or above in Maths & English
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant standard or equivalent qualification
- To have a commitment towards own CPD
- Ability to work and communicate with young children, teachers, and parents
- To understand and comply with Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Data Protection and have an awareness of Equal Opportunities & Diversity within schools
- Experience working in a relevant educational setting
Desirable:
- Diploma/ Foundation Degree
- Able to deliver planned programmes of work to children
- Knowledge of Child Development, Trauma Theory, First aid Code of Practice
- Experience working with children with SEN and English as an additional language
- To be open honest, resilient, patient and kind with a genuine interest in children
