The English College is an independent, co-educational British curriculum school (EYFS–Year 13) with a reputation for academic excellence. The Role

The Assistant Head of Secondary (Pastoral) will:

  • Lead the development of a coherent, values-led pastoral culture.
  • Champion positive behaviour, attendance, and punctuality policies.
  • Promote emotional literacy, student voice, and a sense of community belonging.
  • Work closely with Heads of Year and other key staff to implement proactive restorative practices.
  • Build strong partnerships with families to ensure clear communication and student support.
  • Contribute to whole-school strategic planning and the vision for Secondary.
  • Support staff development, offering guidance, mentoring, and CPD opportunities.
  • Carry a teaching load while demonstrating creativity in inspiring and motivating students.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • UK QTS or PGCE (or equivalent) with a strong teaching background.
  • A minimum of five years’ teaching experience, with leadership experience preferred.
  • Honours degree in a relevant field.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, leadership, and strategic planning skills.
  • Proven ability to lead pastoral initiatives that positively impact student wellbeing and achievement.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusivity, and continuous professional growth.

Desirable: Experience in a British curriculum international school and senior leadership exposure.
